>> A waterman from Slaughter Beach just told me that they are picking up 35 to 38” stripers and VERY large weakfish (close to 30”!!!!). Sounds to me like the fish are starting to show up.
>> Some good news at the IRI—locals have picked up tautog on shrimp and keeper stripers which were caught on flies.
>> Richard Fioravanti, New Castle, DE, fished at Cubbage Pond in Lincoln and had a yellow perch just under a pound and a citation largemouth bass weighing in at 7.2l# with a girth of 15” and 22 ½” long.
>> News from local fishing clubs informs us: “There are a few schoolies around in the surf being taken on bloods-also some of the tog targeters are reporting that they are getting a few keepers at the inlet on green crabs. A couple of the local lads came in for night crawlers and showed some pictures of large carp that were released at Round Pole Bridge.
>> Received an email from ‘Bluefish’: “Augustine Beach and surrounding waters are yielding some really BIG perch - way bigger than last year on blood worms. Small ditches where water can warm is great.”
>> Captain Carey Evans , “Grizzly Sport Fishing” informs us: “We finally made it fishing after a cooler than normal late winter and early spring. We will continue tog fishing until May 11 when the season closes. Striper fishing is an option now thru early May. Sea bass are expected to reopen on May 19th. By first of May we will also see some Black drum in the mix. Flounder will be on the menu Memorial Day weekend as well.
>> With fish entering the spillways this spring, anglers are also reminded that using any type of net to catch fish within 300 feet below a dam or spillway is illegal, with the exception of using a landing net on a fish caught with hook and line.
Anglers reminded that harvesting river herring is prohibited
New Delaware Fisheries regulations took effect in February 2012, closing the recreational and commercial harvest of river herring (also known as blueback and alewife herring). The closure was made to bring Delaware into compliance with Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) requirements.
