I thought I would touch base and let you know what is in the planning stages.
Military Appreciation Day, Delaware Chapter
With great pleasure we announce that Military Appreciation Day,(MAD), Delaware Chapter is in it's planning stages, for it's inaugural event to take place Oct., 11, rain or shine. Thanks Bill's Sport Shop and customers for becoming our supporting partners. This is a day where you can show your appreciation for our active Military members.
We will be taking active Military members out for a day of fishing, food and fun! We will be looking for volunteers to:
A) Take military members out on your boat for a day of fishing.
B) At the end of the day, we will host a BBQ for those Military members and all the volunteers.
This is our way of saying: One. Simple. Thanks.
We will be looking for volunteers to take them fishing (you do not need to be a licensed Captain). We are looking for crews to set-up, cook, serve and clean-up. We are also looking for fish cleaners. We will need volunteers to assist in our fund raising efforts. If you want more info, please visit www.militaryappreciationday.org, or like Bill's Sport Shop or Military Appreciation Day, Delaware Chapter on FaceBook.
We are also asking our generous vendors for help in providing rigs and baits. We're going to need food items and paper goods.
We are working on a venue where we can have shelter for the BBQ and social to follow the fishing trip.
We are looking for donations for door prizes.
If anyone has any ideas to make this a memorable day for our troops, give us a call.
If you wish to volunteer your time for this one day event, please call Bill Jr at Bill's Sport Shop 302-645-7654.
Besides our annual flea market in April, we will be celebrating our 20th anniversary in business and hope to put together sales and discounts for the occasion.
Meantime, ‘like’ us on Facebook as Bill Jr reports daily on happenings.
Here's a to-do list for Jan. and Feb.:
-Get your reels re-spooled with new line
-Get your reels serviced.
-tie some rigs.
-check your guides for cracks. Take a Q-tip and rub the inside of the guides. If there is residue, replace that guide! Dental floss works also!
-Sharpen or replace the hooks on your lures.
-Clean out your tackle box! (set aside items for flea market}
-Get your fishing license and fin number.
-Don't wait for the bite to start! Get ready now!!!!
Stop in and we will assist you with any of these items!
>> Spoke with Lt. Doug Messig of DNREC F&W enforcement today and was able to get clarification on some issues:
1) Fishing without a F.I.N. number is the same as fishing with no license. The fine is $50.00 plus court costs of $56.00 for $106.00.
This is to the individual, not the boat Captain. It is the individual's responsibility, not the boat owner.
2) The surf fishing permit is ONLY valid for the owner of the vehicle, and no one else. I was always under the impression that it was the driver of the vehicle. Enforcement will ask for the yellow copy that is to be kept with your vehicle and check against the driver's license.
