I realize October is a long way from now, but as you know, when Memorial Day arrives, our focus will be on making sure you have a great season of fishing. The committees are anxious to have their positions filled.
Military Appreciation Day, Delaware Chapter
The response has been overwhelming on making Oct. 11 a great day for the active Military members.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hector Reyes and MAD, Inc for requesting that Bill's Sport Shop be the Supporting Partner for the Delaware Chapter, and for asking me to be his Vice Chairman in this project. I would also like to thank the committee chairs for volunteering their time: CJ Jarrell (Striper King Gear) for the food committee, Judy Mangini (WGMD) as the Public Relations Chair, Chris Eames as the Fund Raising Chair, and Paul Dougherty as the Vessel/Boat Chair.
We have many boats lined up, along with lots of volunteers, for the day’s activities. You do not need to be a licensed Captain.
At the end of the day, we will host a BBQ for those Military members and all the volunteers.
Please join us in thanking Delaware Paddlesports Kayak Fishing for their donation of 15 kayaks and 2 guides for our October 11th event!
Also thanks to Mountaire Farms of Delaware for their pledge of their Premium poultry products to be served at our Heroes BBQ during MAD Delaware 2014. Thank You Mountaire Farms for your support.
Welcome Paul Dougherty as the Boat/Vessel Chairperson!
We still need crews to set-up, cook, serve and clean-up.
We are also looking for fish cleaners. We will need volunteers to assist in our fund raising efforts. If you want more info, please visit www.militaryappreciationday.org, or like Bill's Sport Shop or Military Appreciation Day, Delaware Chapter on FaceBook.
Some bait vendors are donating bait; and tackle dealers for rigs.
We will need more food items, salads, desserts, etc… and paper goods.
We are working on a venue where we can have shelter for the BBQ and social to follow the fishing trip.
We need donations for door prizes.
If anyone has any ideas to make this a memorable day for our troops, give us a call.
If you wish to volunteer your time for this one day event, please call Bill Jr at Bill's Sport Shop 302-645-7654.
>> Besides our annual flea market in April, we will be celebrating our 20th anniversary in business and hope to put together sales and discounts for the occasion.
Meantime, ‘like’ us on Facebook as Bill Jr reports daily on happenings.
Here's a to-do list for Jan. and Feb.:
-Clean out your tackle box! (set aside items for flea market} Re-spool and get reels serviced.
-Get your fishing license and fin number.
>> Visit our facebook page for the dates of the Safe Boating Course.
>> Sea Bass Regs are open 5/19 to 9/18 and 10/18 to 12/31 15 fish at 12.5 inches.
>> So far for the flea market, we have the following Manufacturers reps attending: Travis Light from Tica and Danielson; Patrick Latham from Shimano, AFTCO and PowerPro; Mike Hansen from AquaClear; Ben Feezer from Eagle Claw and Ranger nets.
>> The 2014 Fresh Water Trout Season in Tidbury (Kent County) and Newton (Sussex County) Ponds opens at 7:00 am on Saturday March 1, 2014.
>> Spoke with Lt. Doug Messig of DNREC F&W enforcement and was able to get clarification on some issues:
1) Fishing without a F.I.N. number is the same as fishing with no license. The fine is $50.00 plus court costs of $56.00 for $106.00.
This is to the individual, not the boat Captain. It is the individual's responsibility, not the boat owner.
2) The surf fishing permit is ONLY valid for the owner of the vehicle, and no one else. I was always under the impression that it was the driver of the vehicle. Enforcement will ask for the yellow copy that is to be kept with your vehicle and check against the driver's license.
