>> We have reports of large flounder in VFW slough.
>> Fishing Report by Sue Foster, Oyster Bay Tackle: "Water temps (41.7) are still cold but slowly coming up. Had a few reports of fish this week. As water temperatures rise and we get some solar heating from the sun, we should see more fish. So far this week, we heard of some short stripers at Indian River Inlet and around the Route 50 Bridge. The first legal tautog were caught from the bulkhead between 2nd and 4th Streets. One flounder was reported from the Indian River Inlet area."
Then Sue writes: "OK, I just heard the DNR measured 3 legal tog at the bulkhead at 2nd and 3rd Street yesterday. Some short stripers at both the Ocean City Bridge and Indian River Bridge…. One customer report from each location…. One striper reported offshore in the 3 miles zone in a boat."
>> Captain Carey Evans, 'Grizzly Sport Fishing Charters'
We finally made it out after one cold winter. Wallace Moore and freinds had a nice day to start the spring, harvesting 15 tog and throwing back 35 shorts. Tog fishing will improve with the water warming up. Saw an osprey eating a large bunker yesterday so there should be some stripers around soon. We have an opening this Sunday April 13 if anyone would like to get out. Remember to take the kids fishing!
>> Harvest of river herring, use of nets near spillways, retaining striped bass during spawning season unlawful in Delaware
DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife announces new online shad and river herring identification guide for anglers
DOVER (April 3, 2014) – A new online shad and river herring identification guide is now available for anglers on the DNREC website, the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife announced today. The handy ID guide was developed to help anglers distinguish between shad and river herring, which can be similar in appearance but must be treated differently by anglers who catch them, according to state fishing regulations.
In response to population declines, regulations were enacted to help restore Delaware’s once-thriving shad and river herring stocks. The Division of Fish and Wildlife is reminding anglers that they cannot harvest or possess blueback herring and alewife, from any waters in the State of Delaware. Also, the harvest of American shad and hickory shad is prohibited from the Nanticoke River and its tributaries
