>> A portion of the Cape Henlopen State Park Pier is now open.
>> Military Appreciation Day is fast approaching. The committee is still in need of volunteers with boats to take active military members for a day of fishing on Oct. 10.
Other committees also could use some help. Parking, greeting, setting up for the BBQ cook, serve, clean fish and clean up. We will need desserts and other food donations. Please call Bill, Jr. at 645-7654.
>> Mark Stiegler fished in the surf and had a great time catching blues all day. They ranged in size from 5 to 15".
>> For those fishing the beach....Bloods and fishbites are working for sheepshead. I have also been given reports of black and red drum being caught, along with croaker and kingfish. Small trout have been reported from the Broadkill. So far, the Pier is producing croaker, spot and flounder.
>> Frank Tucker posted that he took Joe Waski and Doug Young Sr and they had a very good day on the ocean out of Indian River. Caught their limit of 16 3/4 to 20" flounder.
>> 'The 4 Horseman Kayak Fishing Team' went down to Tilghman Island and had a fun day striper fishing. The entire trip was catch and release, and they had a blast! On another trip they reported they had a great time this morning. Joe Hosler was able to hook up at the Outer Wall on five blues, some crackers and a nice croaker. Chris Erby got into the oyster crackers and a couple of cow nose rays...good time, we are just passing time until the fall run.
>> Complete Charter boat reports and pictures can be found on facebook.
>> 'Last $ Charters': "Fun fishing with my friends Chad Tingle and Richie Baldwin... We were on the hunt for big eye tuna and ended up going 1 for 7 on sword fish. First 5 bites we did not hook up. The 6th sword fish jumped at the surface landing on the line and breaking it. That sword looked bigger then the one we caught. The 7th one we finally gaffed after a 3 hour fight. We estimated the fish to be around 300lbs..."
>> 'Grizzly Sportfishing': "Ned Witmer and family had a limit catch of flounder along with a couple seabass. On another trip, they took the crew from Hazzard Electric out...for our best flounder trip of the year. Three of the flounder were over 7# and a couple more over 6#.
>> 'Gale Force Charters': "Marianne, Jennifer, and Kathryn fished with me today and caught 9 keeper flounder, a sea bass, and a bluefish along with many shorts."
>> Captain Rodney Jones of 'Fish Whisperer Charters': "Took Aztech Contracting out and put 12 flounder in the box on this beautiful day with Aron having big fish honors! Henry caught a hammerhead over 50#".
>> 'Captain's Lady Charters' posted: "Many keeper flounder were caught today along with a couple of keeper trout and just about all the croakers were a pound or better"!
>> 'Dana Lynn Charters' told us that "We are finally getting a weather break. Took a father & son team of Mike & Mike Jr. out for some flounder fishing. Sea conditions made for an absolutely gorgeous day to be on the water. Unfortunately the drift was very slow. We did manage some keeper flounder and sea bass."
