Please note the change of hours and fish closures.

As you read the report, you'll note that lots of fish are being taken from the Surf, IRI, Pier, Massey's Ditch, DE Bay, and Offshore.

Fishing News

>> Chuck Nagle was fishing Massey's and came away with a lot of blues in the 20 to 22” size. He also pulled some sea bass and short flounder over the rail.


>> Rare catch at Massey's! The effects of Irene must have caused this. A 5# sheepshead was tricked to the boards with clam as bait on 9/1.


>> "Playin Hookey" ventured to the Baltimore on Wed. and came back with 2 yellowfin.
>> Paul Powalski called from CHSP. After stopping at Bills for fresh mullet, he caught blues over 16" while chunking. He also reported that a lot of fisherman were catching sand sharks as well.
>> "Hey Bill, We went out to DBbouy on Wed., & did pretty good. We had a good mix of fish like croaker, sea bass, blues lots off small flounder, two that were 22". Not bad for (after the storm trip). We will be going again soon and if we do good i'll let you know. Thanks again, Frank."
>> Dom and Russell fishing on "Mr.Dom" caught 41 croaker all between 12 and 16"as well as two 16" throw back flounder. We fished west of "B" buoy using squid and silversides for bait.
>> Chad Bayles fished at 3R's Rd. with whole mullet rigs and caught blues up to 15" and small stripers on mullet chunks. He then went to the swirls at IRI and caught 18" blues on finger mullet and 6 kingfish up to 12" on fishbites.
>> Mike Perry fished the Naval Crossing and had blues up to 15" on whole mullet rigs.
>> Large spot up to 9"are being hauled over the boards at the fishing pier at Cape Henelopen.
>> Massey's Ditch is producing blue fish on fresh mullet.
>> Eddie Kim, Rockville, Md, caught a citation flounder at IRI using a white bucktail and chartruese Gulp! The flounder weighed in at 8.45#, 27" long.
>> Sue Foster, Oyster Bay Tackle,OC, let us know: "It took a few days for the fish to come back after Hurricane Irene, but yes, they came back! The evening after the storm lots of stripers were caught at Indian River Inlet in the wee hours of the morning. Blues and stripers hit the Route 50 Bridge. Snapper blues hit the surf. A few days after that, we heard news of flounder coming back into the bays. One man fishing the Bridge on Sunday said he caught 40 throwbacks and some blues. Crabbing has been good as well."

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Skills & Seamanship (BS&S) Course

The USCG Auxiliary, Indian River Flotilla, 12-09, will be presenting a seven-week, Boating Skills & Seamanship (BS&S) Course starting on Monday, 19 September 2011, at Short’s Marine Office/Showroom off Long Neck Road, Millsboro, DE. Classes are from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. each Monday. The course covers boating, navigational rules, required safety equipment, navigational aids, and numerous related subjects. Students are awarded a USCGAUX certificate upon successful completion of the course and a safe boating card from the State of Delaware. The BS&S Course is one of the most comprehensive courses available for recreational boaters and satisfies both Federal and State training requirements. Optional lessons may be included as appropriate. The cost is $35.00 per student and includes a study manual with workbook. The cost for additional family members that can share the study manual or those with their own manual is $15.00. Call R.A. (Andy) Smith at (302) 537-2350 to enroll.

Tau Tog season is closed.

Slot size stripers, in the Delaware Bay and its tributaries, is closed. All stripers must by 28".

Cape Henlopen Point has re-opened on the Ocean side. The Bay side will re-open on October 1st.

Sea Bass closes 10/12 through 10/31.

Flounder closes 10/24 through 12/31
