--Bill's Sport Shop is having a "Trash Fish Tournament" which will run from Sept. 1st till the 30th. There will be four categories: Skate, oyster crackers, sea robbins and dogfish. The entry fee is $5.00 per category and all weigh-ins will be at Bill's.
--Bill and I (Kathy) shook hands with Guy Harvey yesterday. We took the ferry to Cape May where he exhibited many of his prints, posters, clothing and art. He was happy to sign shirts and {even ones we were wearing) and we also had our pictures taken with this amazing artist.
Besides being an artist, he is a scientist, diver, angler conservationist and explorer. He is interesting and charismatic and it was fun meeting him.

Fishing News

--Fishing on the "Partner-Ship" with Captain Mark Cropper and his mate, Spencer Cropper (his 16 year old son), and Bradley Layfield of Millsboro caught the first billfish in his fishing career (approx 75 lb white marlin) which he released. A few hours later, released a blue marlin (approx 175 Lbs). The was day capped off with Nickkie Lane, of Millsboro, who completed the boat's Atlantic Grand Slam by releasing a sailfish (approx 50 Lbs).
--Tina Hutchins, Denise, Candace, Lonnie Culver, Carol Elliott(Brians Mom),and Chrissy Jamgochian caught a 27.3lb dolphin aboard the "No Worries" with Capt. John Ratliff and Mate Donnie Culver in the Poor Girls Open, with a payout of $2900.00. A 43 pounder took 1st place.
--"We were out over the weekend and fished all over the bay and inlet of OCMD. We caught some short flounder and sea bass. One angler told me he had 60 flounder and no keepers. Some boats took advantage of school of blues in the east channel. Stripers were red hot on the out going tide in and around the 50 Bridge. We saw two real nice keepers and lots of throw backs." --Lee and Joanie Lovette let us know they fished just outside Massey's Landing and caught about 30 croaker up to 11". They used strips of mullet, spot and blue. On another trip, they slammed into more croakers and plenty of spot using Fish Bites.
--Reports are coming in of puffer fish biting on the Rehoboth Bay side of Massey's using clams.
--Sue Foster of Oyster Bay Tackle in OC, said flounder fishing was good during the week. Lou Hionis caught at 19 1/4" flounder from the IRI. Bluefish and a few stripers hit the Rt. 50 Bridge on Gotcha Plugs, live bait and swimming shad lures. Surf fishing produced kingfish, spot, croaker some bluefish, sharks rays and skates. There were a couple of really good runs of croaker on Assatague and DE State Park. Offshore, cobia, sea bass and flounder and further out dolphin, tuna and lots of white marlin.
--Capt. Carey Evans of "Grizzly Sportfishing" said flounder fishing remains consistent. Croaker fishing is also good and getting better. Blowfish have been a big hit on many of his trips. Sand tigers and angel shark were caught and released.
--Bobby from the Pier called and said they are catching alot of spot to 9" and croaker.
--The latest news on the sea bass regulations is: open till Oct 11, closed 10/12 to 10/31, and then open again from 11/1 to the end of the year. 2011 to be announced.

Blue Marlin categoty is vacant as no qualifying blues were caught.

Tuna "Tar Heel" with Mike Chrysanthopolis holding the top two places with yellowfins of 71 and 66 lbs.

Russell Baiocco’s "American Lady" set the standard in the dolphin category today with a new tournament record, a 56-pounder erasing the previous record of 53 pounds set by Bob Lane’s "Lady Lane" in 1994. Don Haines’ "Shelly II" still leads the wahoo category with a 49 lber.

Paddlin' for the Bays

"Paddlin' for the Bays", sponsored by the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, The Bayfront at Rehoboth Community and Quest Fitness in Lewes. It will be held Sat., Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is open to all ages and will feature kayak poker paddle and cook-out to raise funds for habitat restoration. It will be held bayfront at Rehoboth community on Camp Arrowhead Rd. For more information, please contact Eric Buehl at 302-226-8105.

Vessel Safety Check

The Vessel Examination Staff Officer for Flotilla 12-09, Indian River, wants everyone to know that he does Vessel Checks for his Flotilla at Massey's Landing each Saturday morning and at Lewes Ramp each Sunday morning. He also does house calls (vessel checks at a home or marina) in the Lewes, Rehoboth, Millsboro area.
