Merchandise is arriving daily. New sunglasses with sports team logos: Phillies, Nationals and Oriols are in and selling very well. We’re predicting a great fishing season. Stripers are being caught on the surf and bluefish have shown up in OC. Tautog are being pulled from the rocks and wrecks and thresher sharks are reported at B Buoy.

Fishing News

>> Joe Barranco, Rehoboth Beach, weighed in three fish and had three citations. He had a 1.05# crappie that was 13 ¼” long, a 1.10# yellow perch, 14 ¼” and a bluegill of 1.10# 11 3/8”. All were caught on minnows at Cedar Creek. On another trip, Joe caught redear sunfish on grass shrimp.
>> Received an email from David Konick: “Capt Jim was out today with Coach Bill Gorski, John Crane, Paul Ross, and Mark Laprete and it was as the guys put it “the best day of our lives striper fishing”. It is hard to explain with words the action we had today as the bass were in tight to the beach on bunker and herring and the guys were constantly hooked up with 3 or 4 on at a time. Capt Jim even said it was his best early spring day ever. We had over 40 fish!”
>> Joe Arowood, De. City, caught a striper weighing 23.85#, 39” using clams for bait while surf fishing at Herring Point.
>> Tony Ciferni and Ken Mosher fished the Wall with green crabs and fleas. Both limited out on tog, all over 20”.
>> Mike Rivera, “On Delivery Charters”, just informed us that thresher sharks have shown up at “B” Buoy.
> >From Sue Foster Oyster Bay Tackle: “Opening day of flounder season saw flounder in Ocean City! We at Oyster Bay Tackle had one weighed in at 8 1/4 pounds! A few stripers were reported in the surf along with a couple blues and several skates. Route 50 Bridge saw some striper action. Oceanic Pier had tautog, skates, and blues. Tautog fishing was pretty good in and around Ocean City, DEL, and offshore. Still
a few stripers offshore Ocean City. Lots offshore in NJ. Surf's UP!”

> >From Captain Carey Evans, “Grizzly” Sport Fishing Charters”, Anglers Fishing Center: “We continue to concentrate our efforts on Tog fishing. Black drum and striped bass should show up in the catches soon as well. Sea bass fishing along with flounder will become targets in May as well. Bernie Smelstoys family and friends had a nice spring limit of tog up to 6.5lbs. The following morning Ray Fisher family and friends joined us on a beautiful spring day. We finished up with a really nice catch of tog up to 7.5 lbs caught by Margaret Fisher. Dick Yohe and friends joined us next and by mid day everyone was in T-shirt which is hard to believe this time of year. They finished the day with another great catch of tog including three fish over 7 lbs with the largest tipping the scales at 8.75 lbs.”

ASMFC Black Sea Bass Board Finalizes 2012 Recreational Measures

Arlington, VA – Upon review of the latest black sea bass recreational data from last year (waves 1 – 6), the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Management Board has modified the percent that states may liberalize their 2012 recreational management measures.

Based on the stock projections completed in 2011, the black sea bass stock is not overfished and overfishing is not occurring. The projections indicate the stock is at about 111% of its biomass target. In DE and MD, the size is 12.5” and the creel limit is 25. The season runs from May 22 to Oct. 14 and Nov., 1 to Dec. 31. {Season may change depending on federal regulations.}
