>> Capt. Carey Evans, “Grizzley Sport Fishing Charters” emailed his report: “We continue to see good fishing both inshore and offshore. Flounder fishing has provided good action on every trip . Sometimes the keeper ratio is better than others but we are certainly catching them. The croakers have arrived in the bay as well. Perfect timing for family half day trips during which we can catch a nice variety on a daily basis. The variety includes flounder, croakers, bluefish, blowfish, and sand sharks. Tuna fishing has taken a turn for the better with the inshore chunking bite changing from nearly all bluefin to all yellowfin. Inshore shark fishing for browns and duskys has also provided some excellent action as well.”
39th Annual White Marlin Open
The White Marlin Open is an event that can be fun and exciting for the spectators as well as the anglers. All fish must be weighed on the official scale at Harbour Island, (14th Street and the Bay), and the weigh-ins are held there each day of the tournament from 4:00 to 9:15 PM and are open to the public free of charge. As the week goes on, the suspense builds, as potential lottery sized fortunes change hands with a tip of the scale. It’s a terrific way to spend a few exciting hours during your Ocean City vacation. There is no parking available at Harbour Island, but there is ample parking within a few block walk. The Presbyterian Church on 14th Street, just a block away offers parking for a small donation. There will also be a “Park and Ride Shuttle Service” offered from the Convention Center
MID ATLANTIC 500,000
The tournament kicks off with Registration, Calcutta Entries and the Welcome Cocktail Party followed by a brief Captain’s Meeting at both host marinas on Sunday, August 19. From Monday, August 20 through Friday, August 24, participants will select three fishing days from the five available. As always, Canyon Club Resort Marina will serve as the event’s host marina in Cape May and Sunset Marina will host participants who elect to sail from Ocean City, Maryland, the tournament’s only satellite port. Both marinas will again be providing full weigh in capabilities for all five tournament species. As always to keep the boundaries fair for all participants all boats from either port must fish within 125 miles of the Cape May Sea Buoy. There is no limit to the number of anglers, lines or teasers. IGFA rules apply except a fish may be hooked by someone other than the angler provided the rod is immediately passed off to the angler who will then fight the fish until it is boated or released.
